Timed essay 1
Explain how ongoing audience interaction influences the
production of video games. Refer to Minecraft to support your answer.
Minecraft is the
perfect example of audience interaction influencing the production of video
games.
Minecraft started off as a non-commercial product, so the
product wasn’t really created to be a social platform. It was more of a place
for creators to just build and mess around in so it was targeted to a small
amount of people making it a niche market for the few of those that were
interested.
However, those playing the game decided to talk about the
game and creators began making review videos. The original non-commercial game
became very well talked about on social platforms and this helped to create an
audience for the game. The developers of the game began to become aware of the
rising audience for the game listening to the creator’s feedback and deciding
to make the game more accessible to the audience demanding the game.
Due to the audience’s interaction with the game the developers
took the feedback given from players and began to listen to thee fanbases.
After looking into the interactions of the audience the developers decide to
invest more money into the platform and the game became commercially viable. The
Minecraft fandom only continued to grow which lead to the developers being able
to also make money off merchandise created for the game and even create Minecon
for the fandoms. The social interaction was so influential there was only need
for very little advertising of the game as most of it had been done for free
through social platforms.
The social interaction created by audiences not only influenced
the developments of the game but created an entire community and brand for the
product. The interaction was so influential that even Microsoft took an
interest in the brand that had been created and purchased it for 2.6 billion,
which only helped the brand go from non-commercial to commercial.
